Park Ridge gets to add another notch to its ever growing event belt with its First Annual Vine Street BBQ Competition August 12, 12:00pm to 9:00pm at the corner of S. Prospect and S. Summit. This is Park Ridge’s first public grilling contest. Are you pumped? I am.
Early this year, Park Ridge brought forth its first ever Craft Beer Festival, thanks to Beer on the Wall and Harp & Fiddle – two fantastic businesses in the heart of uptown. Couple that with an already outstanding lineup of Park Ridge summer events – Concerts in the Park, Taste of Park Ridge, Cruisin’ Park Ridge Car Shows, Farmer’s Markets, Movies in the Park and so much more – honestly we can’t keep up.
I tease about how great Park Ridge is to all my city friends, but really – it is.
And now it’s even better as we gear up to watch what promises to be a fantastic competition. With teams named Lynyrd Ribnyrd, Pig Floyd and Pork Dorks – and so many more, it has to good. Real good. The website promises great music, food and family fun. I mean, come on, did you need any more reasons to walk to uptown, drink beer and eat meat? I didn’t think so.
The contest is open to up to 20 grilling teams, who will be judged by individuals who are certified by the Kansas City BBQ Society.
According to the Tribune – ‘Park Ridge Mayor Marty Maloney said he will be grilling with some of the city’s other elected officials. He acknowledged that 5th Ward Ald. Charles Melidosian will be “doing the lion’s share of the work” for the team.’
And the coolest thing – All net proceeds will benefit Maine Township and Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation. That makes me feel good!
Now you may know me, I’m an old Okie boy and I know BBQ. I don’t through endorsements around. Trust me when I say – you have to check it out next weekend.
Want to volunteer People who want to volunteer can do so by signing up here.
Also- because I think you all should know – this may be the best BBQ sauce in the world. May Vine Street prove me wrong.

Nod to sponsors – I love how local businesses are coming together to create these experiences –great for kids and adults. Orange Theory leads the way as the title sponsor – I can only assume that’s where we will all need to go after we stuff ourselves with pork and beef. Other sponsors include Layer Cake Wines (Red goes with Ribs), Vine Street Design, Holt’s (ate there last night), Groot, Allstate, Niki Rimbas Laskaris DDS, and Levinson and Stefani.
